Gardening Design - Things You Can Do

The foundation of a great landscape is a well thought out garden design. This term refers to the arrangement of flowers, colors, and curbs to enhance the appeal of the garden.

You can create your dream garden using some amazing gardening ideas available today. All you have to do is focus on some key features of the garden, like the foliage, plant combinations, stunning effects, and using multiple colors. However, you have to make sure they all these features work together in unity. To add diversity in colors, you can use different plants like lavender, orange flowers, purple blooms, or plant species that produce blue or pink flowers.

Here are some other interesting ideas that you can explore:

Add Wildlife

Sometimes, adding a touch of wildlife is makes things interesting. You can make birdbaths if your garden attracts birds. You can also make a special corner for butterflies in your garden design. For this, you can grow plants like the Butterfly bush, Purple Coneflower, Anise Hyssop, Aster, Butterfly weed, Salvia, Phlox, Lantana, Pentas, Passionflower, Black-eyed Susan, Mexican Sunflower, Zinnia, South American Verbena, Joe Pye Weed, Coreopsis, and Fennel.

Use Best Fragrance Plants

To make your garden inviting and attractive for people, you should grow some plants with delightful fragrances. Plant fragrances have a unique effect on mood and stress level, and in many ways can serve as a form of therapy. Some great plants that you can use in your garden design are Dianthus,  Lilac, Sweet Autumn Clematis, Gardenia,  Oriental Lily, Nicotiana, Garden Phlox, Rose, Lily-of-the-valley, Sweet Pea,  Hyacinth, Iris, Flowering Crabapple, Heliotrope, Moonflower, Sweet Alyssum, Peony, lavender, and Southern Magnolia.

You can create one, so that people can sit in your garden with a cozy cushion and pillows to relax and enjoy the landscaping. You can always add new fun features to it, like a planter box on the sides of the bed.

Use Rocks and Boulders Garden Design

Using structures like rocks and boulders in your garden design offers diversity and increases aesthetic appeal. It looks rugged and adds natural beauty to the landscape. Of course, you don’t have to use extremely large rocks and boulders, and also don’t use too many of them.

Add a Potting Bench

To make the garden look  cozy and exciting, adding a potting bench is a great idea. Besides, since you have to work on the garden design at regular intervals, this feature will be very helpful. You can work on it to pot new plants and to pay attention to them whenever the need arises.

Create a Small Garden Fountain

A fountain always adds a lot of attraction to the garden design. It also helps by allowing you to recycle the rainwater. Adding a fountain will definitely attract attention and offer your guests something interesting to watch and relax.

If you feel unsure about the size of these features that you should use for your garden design, consult an expert.

A year ago we contacted New Dimensions about redoing our landscape, which at the time was 13 years old. New Dimensions came to our attention because they had done a neighbor's yard that we thought looked really good. They came out the next day, discussed some ideas, and came back within two days with a plan and an estimate of cost. With only minor changes to their original plan, we contracted with them to do the work, and within a week the job was finished. The old material was removed, the reusable plant and trees had been transplanted, the new materials were installed, and the yard was perfectly cleaned. The transformation was incredible and we continue to get many compliments from family, friends, and neighbors about how good the landscaping looks. We could not be more pleased. In addition New Dimensions will continue to refresh and refurbish as needed. Many thanks to Dale McQuillen and his team for a great job. Syd Heaton

  • New Dimensions Landscaping in Lakeland, FL designed my surrounding with a high taste and value that is worth pointing and ever remembering. They added a waterfall in front of the flat and gave it an ornamental touch. Technicians are well trained and friendly in work. They did the entire task before the contacting time. Highly recommendable and praiseworthy what they did.

  • Solid 5 star business. Everything from the price, to the customer service, to the actual landscape work was top notch. I had a *huge* lawn renovation, to include minor landscaping, trees, and even a new parking area, and it looks fantastic.
